Jessica & Tony – Wedding at the Kontokosta Winery

long island wedding photographer

Short version: I don’t get rained on.

Long version: I believe in the power of positive thinking. When I meet with clients, at some point during the consultation the question of rain comes up. My answer and always with a straight face is, “I don’t get rained on, so don’t worry about that.” It’s been a running joke of mine for as long as I can remember. I’ve driven through downpours on the way to the bride’s getting ready location only to have it stop when I get there. I’ve had it rain 2 minutes after finishing outdoor photos, with everyone having already moved on to the indoor reception. Rain had never affected any of my weddings….until now.

The forecast for Jessica and Tony’s wedding day was not a good one. There was a 100% chance of rain. I thought to myself as I drove through yet another downpour, “This is it, I might get rained on today.” I met up with Jessica and Tony at a small beach out in Southhold. I got there early and it was still raining. As soon as they pulled up, the rain stopped. Coincidence? We did some shooting on the beach and as we left, it started to rain again. At that point, we went to a covered location that I spotted the day before (the shot above was taken there). We left that location and headed to the winery. You won’t believe what happened….it stopped raining again. Coincidence? We were able to take photos in the vineyard, family photos and some more portraits on the bluff overlooking the Long Island Sound. As soon we went indoors for their cocktail hour, it started to pour. I’m talking cats and dogs here. It got so bad that there was no way the outdoor ceremony they planned could be held outdoors. Then something strange happened….it stopped raining. There was even a rainbow! Coincidence? I don’t think so…

In case you didn’t feel like reading all of that, the moral of this story: I don’t get rained on….and neither do my clients.

These are truly the most beautiful wedding photos I have ever seen! Doesn’t hurt that the beautiful bride and handsome groom look happier than anyone I’ve ever seen getting married, and the location was stunning.

Maggie & Christopher – North Fork Wedding – Long Island Wedding Photographer

North Fork, Long Island Wedding

This isn’t the first time Maggie and Christopher have graced these pages. We shot their engagement session last year and Maggie’s bridal shower, which took place just a couple of months ago. Maggie planned a really offbeat wedding….and I do mean offbeat!  The more she and Christopher told us about what they had planned for the day, the more excited we got. I can’t think of too many weddings that feature continuous hayrides, peach picking, a tree swing, croquet games, and the bride driving herself to the ceremony in a bright yellow Corvette convertible. That’s Maggie for you…..never a dull moment!

With so much going on, I called on my buddy Pete Gebhardt to help me out with the shooting. Without him and Silke shooting with me, there’s no way I could’ve covered the 300+ acres of the Salt Air Farm. It seems as if this wedding used every inch of the place. The thought of an outdoor wedding at high noon in mid-August had me worried, but it turned out to be an absolutely beautiful day…..a beautiful day for a wedding!

This is our biggest blog post ever. There was so much going on that it took this many images to tell the story of their day. Even so, there are many great images that didn’t make it to the blog. If you’re looking for images from the Photobooth, stay tuned because they’ll be posted later in the week. Good times for sure…
