A Bridal Shower? – Long Island Wedding Photographer

We shot Maggie and Christopher’s engagement session last Fall and will be shooting their North Fork, Long Island wedding in August of this year. I’ve been keeping in touch with them by e-mail and more frequently through Facebook and things were progressing smoothly. Needless to say, I was a bit surprised when Maggie’s mom contacted me about shooting her bridal shower, especially since Maggie had made no mention of it or me being there. Turns out my appearance there was a surprise and she had no clue. Good thing I didn’t spill the beans ahead of time.

In my entire life, I think I’ve been to maybe one bridal shower….or was that a baby shower? What, you mean they’re not the same??? Anyway, being the bold and fearless guy that I am, I decided that I would go where no man has gone before….at least not willingly! Seriously, what guy has ever gone to a bridal shower without being forced to? I thought to myself, “There has to be a reason men don’t go to these things. It’s probably more fun watching paint dry.” Boy, was I wrong! This turned out to be more fun than I could ever imagine. Take a bunch of women, put them in a room together with a few drinks and you’ve got yourself a party!

Since Silke had a prior engagement, our daughter Rebecca came along as my assistant and she did a great job. A few of her shots are sprinkled in here. By the way, I’d like to give special thanks to the lovely woman who asked if we were a couple. THAT made my day!

For you guys who’ve never made it to a bridal shower, it’s basically a bunch of fun games and opening of some really nice gifts. There’s a lot of laughing, a little bit of crying, and a lot of good food. I mean really, really good food. The only part I can’t show here is the 10 minute period where they kicked me out of the shower. Still trying to figure that one out, but I was told it was a “woman thing”…..whatever that means. Oh yeah, there was toilet paper. Actually, tons of toilet paper (don’t ask) and a cameo appearance by Michael Buble and he sounded pretty good too. What really made this shower great was Maggie. She’s always laughing…or crying…or both. Either way she’s a real sweetheart and just a pleasure to be around. I can’t wait for the wedding…..whether that Buble guy shows up or not!

I mentioned something about a ton of toilet paper. It was used for the toilet paper wedding dress contest. That’s putting the Scott Tissue to good use!

Then came the gifts…

Michael Buble was invited, but he had to decline due to a previous engagement, so the ladies sang for him. It’s almost as if he was really there…almost.

Long Island Hispanic Chamber of Commerce 21st Annual Gala – Long Island Wedding Photographer

This past Saturday, the Long Island Hispanic Chamber of Commerce held its 21st Annual Gala and the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale, New York. The LIHCC is a non-profit organization founded in 1988. Its mission is to serve the Hispanic business communities of Nassau and Suffolk Counties by advancing and enhancing their business interests. It is the goal of the LIHCC to provide its members with professional development workshops, resource materials, a constant stream of warm leads, company name exposure, and networking opportunities that will help them grow their businesses.

Although the focus of the LIHCC is to serve the Hispanic business community on Long Island, it is an organization with a varied membership. What drew me to the LIHCC was the fact that it is an organization built on inclusiveness rather than one of exclusivity. You will find active members from a variety of backgrounds working together towards a common goal and that’s one of the things Silke and I love about the LIHCC. Plus, they’re really cool people……and we’re all about being around really cool people.

Our first contact with the LIHCC was at last year’s 20th Annual Gala, which was a great event. The 21st Annual Gala was an even better one. These Galas are big fundraisers with many items offered at auction and raffled off to raise money. There were some really nice sports memorabilia items being offered along with some beautiful jewelry and various types of fine art.

As usual, the food was delicious, but it was the amazing live performances that turned a great night into a wonderful evening. The crowd was treated to some traditional Peruvian dancing by Mosaicos Andinos and some of the most amazing guitar playing I’ve ever heard by Argentinean born-guitarist/composer Alex Fox, who wowed the audience with his Flamenco style playing.

The place was absolutely rocking!

Here are some of the images from the Gala. If you’d like to see more, you can view a slideslow of the entire evening of festivities HERE.

LIHCC “Cigar Night” – Long Island Wedding Photographer

I shot another Long Island Hispanic Chamber of Commerce event earlier in the week. This one was the LIHCC’s “Cigar Night”. Another fine event that featured a great group of people, good music, and good food.

The centerpiece on each table consisted of a rose arrangement placed beautifully inside an empty cigar box. Designed and assembled by events coordinator Karen Cerna, they were the talk of the night. My begging paid off when she decided to give me one to take home.
