Long Island Wedding Photographer

We first met Maggie and Christopher back in August when we met them to scout their wedding location. What was supposed to be a quick meeting and tour of the wedding site turned into a full day of hanging out with this wonderful couple. Last weekend we met them out on Eastern Long Island to shoot their engagement session. Again, it turned into lunch followed by a really fun shoot. They are really fun to be around. The fact that they share our love for good food is another thing we like about them.

Speaking of good food…..we met them for lunch at a nice little sandwich shop that specializes in cheese. This place had an extensive variety of all kinds cheeses. Personally, I’m perfectly content with cheddar, provolone or mozzarella…..that’s about as daring as I get when it comes to cheese. Silke, on the other hand, likes a good stinky cheese. It must be a girl thing because Maggies also likes those smelly cheeses. Christopher and I made it a point to avoid the smelly stuff. I’m still trying to figure out what a good stinky cheese is. If it’s stinky, it certainly can’t be good…..not in my book anyway. In fact, I think it should be against the law to use the words ‘good’ and ’stinky’ in the same sentence. Anyway, enough about the stinky cheeses.

Before we get to the photos, I have to warn you: Maggie and Christopher are hilarious! I don’t think they can go more than 2-3 seconds without breaking out in laughter. Even worse is that it’s contagious. Here we are trying to take photos and they’re making us laugh, too. There were a few times during the shoot where I told them not to smile and to try to look serious. Of course you know what happened….more laughs!

It was a fun day. We actually managed to get some photos in afterall. Silke and I are looking forward to their wedding next year. We’re fully prepared for another fun day filled with laughter.

So, I get a frantic call last Wednesday afternoon from Walter’s mom asking if I was available for a Saturday wedding. I grab my calendar and asked her, “Which Saturday are we looking at?”

Her reply: “THIS Saturday!”

ACK!!!

After doing a little juggling with the schedule, I was able to accommodate them. As you can see, this was a very spur-of-the-moment affair. When I spoke to Justine Wednesday evening to go over the details, there really wasn’t much to go over as they were still planning. In other words, there were no details. Not only had they not chosen a reception location, she wasn’t even shopping for her dress until the day before. Some people would be unnerved by all of this, but for some reason, I found the late planning and lack of details exciting. There was no time to overthink and no time to anticipate what was going to happen. This was all about reacting to the moment and capturing it. Since I shoot in a manner that is based on capturing events as they unfold, this was right up my alley. Plans? Bah! We don’t need no stinkin’ plans! Being spontaneous, doing crazy things, and flying by the seat of your pants is what “young love” is all about. It’s both refreshing and exciting to see. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut…. those are usually the times when things just seem to work out.

Justine and Walter live in the Bronx, NY, so it was fitting that their day started in their hometown. I spent the first 13 years of my life there, so it was good to go back to the place I grew up.

Best of luck to you guys. If you can handle the pressure of putting together a wedding in less than a week’s time, there’s no doubt you can handle anything life throws your way…

What do guys do when they’re getting ready for the big day? Eat cereal!

This past weekend I had the pleasure of shooting with a buddy of mine who also happens to be one of my favorite photographers….Tony Hoffer.

Tony needed another photographer for Ashley and Mark’s wedding, so I drove down to Downingtown, PA to help him out. We were lucky enough to have really good weather for this affair. So good that the wedding was held outdoors. Outdoor weddings in November are unheard of in this part of the country, but that’s exacly where the wedding was held.

Ashley and Mark were a fun couple to shoot. They laughed and joked pretty much the entire time we were with them. What was really cool is that they’re football fans and the whole football theme fit the day. Beautiful Autumn weather in November felt very much like a good day for football and a good day for a wedding, too. Best of luck guys!

I also have to give a shoutout to Tony for having me down to shoot with him. You can check out his work at Hoffer Photography
